LIU Zhenggang
Born in Lanzhou, Gansu province in 1962.
Graduated from the Gansu Tianshui Normal University in 1980, currently living and working in Beijing.
As an important organizer and representative of Lanzhou-based art activities during the ¡¯85 New Wave movement, Liu Zhenggang used experimental methods of oil painting, sculpture, traditional painting and woodcutting to explore transformations in language. He concentrated on the contemplation and disclosure of instinctive and non-instinctive, rational and non-rational aspects of life. His opposition to ¡°political graphic arts¡± and his advocacy of ¡°purifying language,¡± is embodied in his repeated emphasis on the individual¡¯s intuitive experiences.
