Pan Dehai
Born in Siping, Jilin province in 1956.
Graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Dongbei Normal University. Currently lives and works in Yunnan, Kunming.
Pan Dehai was a primary member of the New Representationalism and Southwestern Arts Group of the ¡¯85 New Wave movement. Like so many young artists of the time, Pan Dehai¡¯s earliest works were strongly influenced by expressionism. Beginning in 1987 he began his Splitting the Cob series therein discovering his own personal vocabulary. The granular nodes that appear on his canvases compose various odd shapes; they not only contain erotic metaphors, but also embody his sober contemplation on life and nature.
