SONG Haidong
Born in Shanghai in 1963.
Graduated from the China Academy of Art in 1985,
currently living and working in Shanghai.
Song Haidong¡¯s art underwent several different periods during the ¡¯85 movement. From his passionate performances of the early era while in the ¡°M Group,¡± to the middle-late period where he returns to calmly reconfiguring ready-made products, both periods richly reflect the artist¡¯s honest handling of the truth. It not difficult to appreciate the artist¡¯s sensitivity to, rumination on and consideration for objects¨C¨Cparticularly in his alteration of ready-mades. In 1994 he began studying Buddhism and reverted to traditional art methods.
