XIAO Lu
Born in Hangzhou in 1962. Graduated from the China Academy of Art, Oil Painting department in 1988, currently living and working in Beijing.
In her early works Xiao Lu was occupied with experimental oil painting and installation art, the ¡°Gun incident¡± resulting from her work Dialogue in the 1989 ¡°China/Avant-Garde Exhibition¡± has since been labeled the ¡°curtain call¡± for modern art in China. This incident during the late ¡¯85 period has classic significance: through extreme means it reflected the contradictory and conflicting circumstances in contemporary art and society, thus sealing this work¡¯s historical significance. Henceforth the ¡°gun¡± shape became one of the themes in Xiao Lu¡¯s later works.
